I found six hotels in the 2.5 to 3.5-star range. These are the lowest end of the budget, with one exception in the 4-star category.
My personal favorite is the Staypineapple, An Artful Hotel in Midtown New York. Zebra print rugs and purple walls are exactly my cup of tea and are within my budget. Will probably be booking here myself.

Literally stumbling distance from the convention, this is one of the closest options and one of the least expensive. It also comes with a fair rating of 2.5 stars. Starting from $227 a night with double occupancy and only 500 meters from Penn Station, it's a great option for us starving artist types.
Book Hudson River Hotel: https://bit.ly/HudsonRiverNFTNYC
Marriott always has a good reputation, and this one is no exception, rated at a solid 3 stars, and commended for being clean and having friendly staff. There is a fitness center in this hotel, Marriott is used to catering to people who travel regularly, and like to keep a balance and routine while still on the road. Starting at only $247 a night, it's not a big jump from the Hudson River Hotel, including FREE breakfast. Another benefit and you can't go wrong with food from the Marriott.
Book SpringHill Suites by Marriott: https://bit.ly/SpringHillNFTNYC
Sheraton also caters to business travelers on the regular and have included a nice fitness center in this hotel. Rooms start as low as $268 and they have a 3 star rating. The rooms themselves are rated nice, and again friendly staff.

Here we have a bit of a price jump to $361 starting, and a 3.5 star rating with our second Marriott location. This centrally located hotel has a reputation for more luxurious bathrooms, perhaps you can get a tub here. This hotel maintains a solid rating on BitBook scoring an 8.2 of 10 with over 1200 ratings. It has ten times the ratings of many hotels, so the consistency there is continuous. For the top of the average rated hotels the Courtyard is probably your go to.

I've got another 10 hotels in the 3.5 to 4 star range, all close to NFTNYC Hudson Yards. Then we will finally check out the 4.5 to 5 star hotels. The rooms that dreams are made of.
Without further adieu, the next hotels for NFT NYC.
This Hyatt location includes free breakfast, has 1400+ verified ratings with a solid 8.1 rating. There is a fitness center, and rooms start at only $306. This has to be one of the best values on our list. Great food, perfect location, and clean. The minimum standard at a Hyatt is higher than many places consider 4 stars. A great choice for the exhibition.

Homewood Suites offers fully functioning kitchenettes even in their studio rooms, they have both a hot and cold breakfast buffet included in the room price, and strive to be a home away from home. They have a lovely rooftop garden for escaping the bustle of the city, and they have a full fitness center. At 3.5 stars and studios starting at $388 it's a pricier starting point, but can save big money in the long run if you are one to use the kitchen. This hotel would be a good idea for people that don't like cities as much, this is about as homey as you will get in the Big Apple.
