One of the most known and visited fjords in Norway, people from all over the world comes to experience this beautiful location.

Geirangerfjord - Norway

This is one of most visited locations in Norway, cruise ships by sea, campers and drivers by land. Even for us Norwegian this is a popular destination during the summer.

All the way back to the 1869, when the first tourist ship sailed into Geiranger this has been an ever increasing popular destination for people from all over the world.

The first hotel was build in the late 1880's and the small settlement went from being almost cut off from the surrounding towns to becoming a popular destination for norwegians and others. And when you see it, you quickly understand why.

There are several other fantastic locations "near-by" so if you want to spend the night you can checkout the nearby hotels, in the middle of Geiranger town you can stay at Hotel Union Geiranger Bad & Spa - as seen in the foreground in the photo below.

Other locations worth checking out is Flydalsjuvet viewpoint - that's where the above photo is taken.

There is also Dalsnibba - a 1500masl viewpoint accessible by car a short drive from Geiranger.

If you don't mind a ferry ride, or a 2,5 hour drive you should check out Loen skylift, one of the steepest in the world - though you might use more than 2,5 hours because there are alot of places worth stopping for on the way from Geiranger. Or if you take the ferry from Geiranger to Loen you can enjoy an fantastic ride between majestic mountains and the long fjords.

In the opposite direction (going from Geiranger up to Ørnesvingen and further) you will reach Gudbrandsjuvet, a 5m narrow and 20-25m high ravine where the water has formed deep potholes and intricate formations - best of all it's literally just beside the road.

Going further on you get to the well known Trollstigen, Trollveggen and city of Åndalsnes - a great base if you enjoy mountain hikes.
