Jalapão - Tocatins - Brazil
Between golden dunes, grandiose landscapes, fervedouros and waterfalls, Jalapão conquers more and more travelers who love ecotourism. In the middle of the savannah of Tocantins, Jalapão is being discovered by tourists looking for a few days of rest away from large urban centers. The destination is ideal for relaxing and intensely enjoying contact with nature. The region is one of the best preserved in the country and access, still limited, makes Jalapão a very little explored region. It's time to leave the usual route and head for a refreshing bath in the waters of Jalapão, after all, there is no shortage of sun there.
Jalapão is a region of the Brazilian cerrado, in the state of Tocantins, which encompasses several municipalities and different preservation areas, including the Jalapão State Park. The total area of Jalapão is 34 thousand km² and the region is considered one of the largest blocks of native vegetation remaining in Brazil. The name is still not very familiar to Brazilian travelers, but little by little the public in love with ecotourism begins to discover this surprising destination in Brazil.
Jalapão can be visited throughout the year. The average temperature in the region is around 30°C and the heat always reigns there. What should be observed is the period of drought and rain. The dry season in Jalapão runs from May to September, with the months from May to July being the best months to travel. The region will still be green and the air humidity higher. With the end of the drought approaching, between August and September, the low humidity of the air can make the environment more uncomfortable and the vegetation will already have lost its green. The advantage of the end of the dry season is the sunset, which is even more beautiful. Rainfall occurs from October to April, peaking in December, January and February. Although the heat remains high, the rain can interfere with tours such as the trail through the Serra do Espírito Santo. Prefer the months with less rain to travel.
Experience the sensation of floating in several fervedouros in Jalapão
The rare phenomenon makes Jalapão a very special destination. The small pools that appear in the middle of the sandy savannah are like oases in the landscape. The water that springs from the springs and mixes with the sand comes with such power from the groundwater that it allows visitors to float effortlessly. From the outside, the fervedouro looks like it has a floor, but when you enter, you can see that what you see is just sand suspended in the water. Impossible to reach the bottom and, most impressively, impossible to sink!
The Jalapão region is taking its first steps towards becoming a major ecotourism destination in Brazil. Some attractions are among the most sought after by travelers and are always present in the itineraries of those who travel through the region. Among the most popular tourist spots are the Dunas do Jalapão, the Cachoeira do Formiga, the Prainha do Rio Novo, the Cachoeira da Velha and at least one of the fervedouros, the most famous being the Fervedouro do Ceiça. Jalapão is still being discovered even by tourism agencies that travel through the region. Have Fun!
