Jericoacoara - Ceará - Brazil
Jericoacoara, better known simply as “Jeri”, is one of the Northeastern destinations that has become a sensation among travelers in recent decades. The village, located about 300 km from Fortaleza, more precisely in the city of Jijoca de Jericoacoara, is a quiet place, with sandy streets and bucolic scenery — ideal for those who want to rest and renew their energies!
Hidden between dunes, lagoons, mangroves and the sea, Jeri was a simple fishing village, a place with difficult access and with practically no structure. Today the simple scenario is still present, but the village is also more modern, has hotels and inns with excellent structure, as well as restaurants and bars that please even the most demanding tourists.
The streets remain dimly lit, the feet continue to touch the sand when walking and that almost familiar atmosphere of a country town is still what moves and involves the climate of the region, which so many people enjoy.
Jericoacoara is a destination to visit all year round. Between the second half of December and Carnival, the village tends to get more tourists, especially during New Year's Eve, a very coveted time in this part of the country.
In the first half of the year, the amount of rain is higher, and it is they that make the lakes in the region get full – this does not mean, however, that it rains all day at this time, on the contrary, you will still be able to enjoy good days of Sun and hot.
The second semester is drier and for those who want to sail, August is the best month, with historical averages of strong winds. Regardless of the time of year, it's good to know that Jericoacoara is a popular destination on weekends and holidays.
The village of Jericoacoara is located in front of the sea and the beach is one of its main attractions. The lagoons, formed by the rains and which have crystalline waters, are also highlights of the region. Walks that lead to the East and West side of the village allow you to explore the surrounding area with ease.
Tip: The village of Jericoacoara is a very simple place, so don't expect great technological advances from the place. There are no banks or ATMs in the village and cars are not allowed to drive without authorization.
Bring flip-flops, because in the sun the sand gets very hot and burns your feet, especially in the dry mangrove. Hat, cap and sunglasses are essential. Take light clothes in your suitcase, it's hot all year in Jeri. Warm clothes, just light, to protect yourself from the wind.
Use sunscreen and be extra careful when visiting the region. As it is very windy in Jericoacoara and surrounding areas, people often do not feel the sun burning. Sunscreen shirts are also a good idea, especially for buggy rides or outdoor exercise.Ask the guide to bring the cooler, so you will only need to buy ice and the drinks you are going to consume, as the most structured place is only at the end of the tour. Take the opportunity to dive and Have Fun!
