It goes upwards all the time, but rewards hikers with a fantastic view, and you can take the skylift down if you want.

Hike - Rampestreken

This popular hike starts from the town of Åndalsnes and goes to 537 MASL, with an fantastic view waiting at the end - you can even go further up to Nesaksla at 708 MASL and take the skylift back down - or continue further on the Romsdalseggen trail.

If you have Åndalsnes as your base camp (check out some of the hotels here) you're most likely in walking distance of the starting point for this hike. A small warning, it might be just 1.8km, but it goes up all the way - bring enough water.

You can find the starting point at google maps (here), there is a parking right next to it, but its expensive. You can park for free in the streets around Åndalsnes Grand Hotel or Rauma kulturhus, both are just a few minutes from the starting point. Several hikes share this starting point (as seen in the second photo below).

The first part of the trail is made handicap friendly, and wheelchair accessible.

This first viewpoint is called Nebba, and offers a pretty decent view considering the low effort required to get there.

But now the real hike begins, as mentioned - it's not that long of a trip, but it goes up all the time - the view is worth it. A tip - bring enough water if you're a little out of shape like myself.

There are several spots along the way, and some a few meters away from the trail that offers some pretty decent views like this one.

You can just about see Rampestreken viewpoint in the middle on the photo below, a great view is waiting for you there!

You will find several of these markers along the trail, telling you how far you have come, it shows how many vertical meters you have climbed since start.

Here's another nice view, closer to Rampestreken now

When you're almost at Rampestreken you can find this water tap just beside the trail, when I was there it was just a small trickle, but enough to fill my bottle in a few minutes. Good, tasty, all natural water, good enough to drink just as it is - but I always bring my Lifestraw bottle on my hikes, just in case.

Just a few minutes up from the water source you'll find Rampestreken, it can be alot of people so try not to use to much time out on the actual platform, let others enjoy the view too.

When you're at Rampestreken you can continue upwards to Romsdalsgondolen/skylift - restaurant and bar on the top.

Further up from Rampestreken is Romsdalseggen trail, and a restaurant/bar and a skylift to take you back down if you want

There are no barriers except on the platform, so you can go outside of the trail to take some photos of the viewing platform itself, or your hiking buddies on it.

When you're done you can either go back down the way you came, or as mentioned above - continue upwards (not to long) towards the top, and Eggen restaurant at 708MASL.

This last part is not that hard, and if you want an really easy way to get to Rampestreken you can take the skylift up and then walk this way down to Rampestreken and back up again. And maybe enjoy a nice dinner at Eggen restaurant - I settled for an ice cold soda.

On the way further up, you get a better view to the other side of the mountain - there are even a couple of Via Ferratas in the mountainside you can check out here

I took the easy way down, I had parked close to Grand Hotel, and it was just 5-10 minutes to walk from the skylift to my car.
