1. Cathedral de Dom

The Cathedral of Utrecht (in Dutch: Domkerk) is a Gothic church in the city center of Utrecht. The Roman Catholic Cathedral was built in the 13th century for the bishop of Utrecht and was dedicated to Sint-Maarten. In 1580 the church was consecrated to Protestantism and still is to this day. With 112,32 meters, the church tower is the tallest in the Netherlands and the highest building in Utrecht.

Originally, the Cathedral of Utrecht was bigger than it is today. During a storm in 1674 part of the church collapsed, separating the tower from the church in the process. Where the middle part of the church was located is now a square (Domplein) with restaurants, bars and the central tourist information point.

Inside the Cathedral you find funerary monuments and the beautiful church interior with stained glass windows. The Great Iconoclasm did leave its marks on the church interior as statues and altars were damaged in 1580.

2. Brewery de Boog

Brewery de Boog was founded in 1584 and was run by the Van Wyckerslooth until the late 17th century. The brewery used the water from the canal as ingredient for its brews. The primary location of the brewery was on De Oudegracht. In 1897 the brewery closed its doors due to heavy competition from the big industrial breweries. After that the premise on De Oudegracht was used as sigar store, liquor store and as a storage facility. In the 1980’s the premise got damaged by a fire after which it was restored in 1989. The premise now serves as residential building, but the facade is largely intact.

3. Railway museum

The railway museum is one of the best-visited museums in the Netherlands. The museum is located in a fully renovated former Maliebaanstation train station. With exciting attractions like the Hyperloop, the Techlab and the display of steam engines it is a must see for the young and the old.

4. Castle de Haar

Castle (in dutch: Kasteel) de Haar is a monumental castle in a small village called Haarzuilens close to Utrecht. It is the biggest castle in the Netherlands and was built from 1892 on the ruins of the old castle that disappeared over 300 years ago. Part of the ruins is even used in in the build of the new castle. A must see!

5. Stay in The Anthony Hotel

The Anthony Hotel is located in an old monastery from 1908. After a thorough renovation, a lot has changed, but the you can still feel the Holy Spirit! The Anthony Hotel has beautiful suites, rooms and apartments and is located in walking distance from the city center.
