Vasa Museum, Djurgården

Djurgården is a quiet island in the middle of the Stockholm. This is a natural wonder that has long remained the private property of the royal family. Until the middle of the 18th century, kings hunted deer on this island. Later, this island was opened to the public and the Skansen open-air museum was established here in 1891. Djurgården was accepted as the city's national park in 1995, and the natural life and cultural heritage on the island are protected by very strict laws.

What's on in Djurgården?

Actually, Djurgården means “Zoo”, but there is much more to this island than just seeing animals in their natural habitat. This is an incredible oasis in the middle of the city with many different museums, multiple concert and show areas, a huge amusement park, houses belonging to the royal family, as well as a huge green area with countless plant varieties, parks and ponds.

The Skansen Open Air Museum, where Swedish history, culture and traditions are kept alive on the island, adds great importance to the island.

Almost all museums are interesting. For example, at the ABBA Museum, it is possible to see everything about the members of Sweden's world-famous pop music group Abba, from wax statues to the covers of their albums.

Vasa Museum

As we mentioned before, this museum is dedicated to the Vasa, which was once a magnificent warship. In the museum, it is explained in detail how the ship was saved, how it was renovated, and what steps were taken to bring it back to its original form.

Accompanied by videos, photographs and films, the museum takes you from the first construction phase of the ship in the 1600s and tells about its sad sinking and its rescue from under the sea after many years of hardship.

In a way, this is the Vasa, the ship of Sweden's Titanic – their stories are similar both in terms of their splendor and in the way they sank on their first voyage.
