The Most Beautiful Greek Islands

Greece is literally a maritime country with more than 3,100 islands and islets. Of the 3,100 islands and islets, only 300 have human life. Tourists from all over the world visit the Greek Islands, which are located in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Ionian Seas.

Karpathos

Karpathos Island, located between Crete and Rhodes in the South Aegean, is known as the secret home of the Titans in ancient mythology. Karpathos, a holiday paradise for Scandinavian tourists, can be reached by ferryboats and flying planes departing from Rhodes. Olympos, the most famous village of the Dodecanese, is located in the north of Karpathos. This place, which was founded by villagers who were afraid of pirates and settled in a valley 300 meters above the sea, managed to preserve its structure in which unique traditions are kept alive. With its narrow streets and rugged structure, the island gives life to different photo frames.

Symi

Located at a point where the Aegean and the Mediterranean meet, Simi is 41 km from Rhodes. The island, with its beaches with rocky cliffs and caves, and impressive pebble beaches, which are different from each other, attracts the attention of visitors especially in the summer season. Each of the streets of Symi Island, where many people from European countries live, intertwined with history, leads to the sea. Taverns, small restaurants and stylish cafes where time has stopped are ideal for breathing the island air.

Mytilene (Lesvos)

In the center of the island, where traces of the Ottoman Empire can be seen, there is a castle that served as a protection and surveillance for the island in the past. The chapel (small church) inside the castle ruins is open to visitors and worship.

Mytilene, the hometown of the Greek national drink Ouzo and the poet Sappho, who introduced the word lesbian to the world, is on the route of those who love to travel with its different beaches, lush nature and streets that smell of history.

Hydra

Hydra Island, which can be reached by a 1.5-hour ferry ride from Piraeus Port, is located in the Saronic Gulf, in the west of the Aegean Sea. Hydra, the most popular island in the bay, welcomes a large number of visitors during the summer season. Bicycles and donkeys are the most common means of transportation on the island, which has a population of 2,000 and where motor vehicle traffic is prohibited. The castle, where the struggle for independence was fought against the Ottomans, several small churches and characteristic Hydra houses are among the must-sees on the island.

Patmos

While in exile, John, one of the writers of the Bible, Hz. Known as the island where he saw Jesus, Patmos is among the pilgrimage centers of Christians. Located in the northernmost part of the Dodecanese, the historical center of Patmos is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Agriolivadi Bay is known as the most beautiful beach on the island.
