A city surrounded by mountains and beautiful beaches bathed by the Adriatic Sea, Mediterranean climate, quality cuisine, fun day and night, in addition to a lot, a lot of history. That's Split, Croatia's second largest city and one of Europe's most coveted summer destinations in recent times.

To give you an idea, the city, which is located on the strategic coast of Dalmatia, that is, very well located, is also one of the sunniest places on Earth - a total of 2,700 hours a year.

There is also one of the most important and busiest ports in the region, which connects the city not only to nearby islands such as Brač, Vis and Hvar - which you can also check here on Best Destinations -, but also cities like Ancona, in Italy. For the record, more than a thousand islands are scattered along the coast of the country, which is absolutely passionate about the art of navigation.

Walking along the cobbled streets of Split is something that, in addition to being pleasant - due to the large number of shops, bars and restaurants -, makes the visitor immerse himself in history. And how can we talk about Split without mentioning its main attraction, the imposing Diocletian's Palace? A UNESCO heritage site, the building, built by one of the greatest Roman emperors and surrounded by walls measuring 215m x 181m, guards the city's most precious treasures.

In Split you will find a happy, welcoming people who are very proud of their origins. The official language is Croatian, but, as in every very touristy city, it is possible to get by very well with the English language. Although Croatia has recently joined the European Union, the country's currency remains the Kuna (HRK).

Imagine a complete summer destination, where, in addition to beautiful beaches, unforgettable landscapes and excellent infrastructure, you can also count on good restaurants/bars, museums and sites full of history. When you opt for Split and the islands close to it - such as Brač, Vis and Hvar - you'll find all this and more.

To explore the region properly, you will need a certain amount of time available - at least three days in each place, if the intention is to visit the main tourist attractions and, of course, relax. Access to the islands by ferry is also very easy, with no need to buy a ticket in advance.

Plenty of sunscreen, light clothes and footwear suitable for hiking/hiking (and also for going into the sea) are highly recommended for those who intend to visit the region during the hottest period of the year, which runs from mid-June to August. What's more, it's relaxing and enjoying the beauties of the Dalmatian coast, a region full of unique destinations and intense programming, both during the day and at night!

The beach, situated on the south side of the island of Brač, is considered the most beautiful in all of Croatia. It's also no wonder, as the most photographed scenery in the country is truly paradisiacal: blue sea, excellent for swimming and for practicing sports, in addition to the strip of sand that extends 500 meters into the sea, the so-called Golden Horn.

The beach has an excellent structure, with parking lots, restaurants like Zlatni Rat, bars and hotels, but it is good to remember that, in the summer, the place usually attracts a huge amount of tourists - which is not very suitable for those who are in search for peace.

How to get there: The beach is 2km on foot from the center of Bol and 35km from Supetar (by car or bus).

In Split and the nearby islands you will find the most varied types of accommodation. There are luxury hotels and resorts, inn-style establishments, hostels and several season apartments.

it is necessary to pay attention only to the time of stay, if the intention is to save money on accommodation. This is because the period from mid-June to the end of August is considered the busiest in the city and, consequently, the most expensive.

Split is a small city where the best hotels and holiday apartments are concentrated in the old town (Split Old Town), a region that brings together the main attractions of the city, such as the busy Riva (waterfront), with bars/restaurants, museums and monuments. . In addition, it is possible to do practically everything on foot, which makes the tour of the friendly city even more pleasant.
