Bali - Indonesia
Admired by many, Bali is a unique place! It is an island belonging to Indonesia, a Southeast Asian country that has more than 13,000 islands. It is the perfect place to disconnect from the fast pace of the metropolis and relax. The island has beautiful rice fields, bucolic landscapes, beaches and above all a very rich cultural heritage, which is its greatest legacy.
Surfers love the place because of its beautiful waves and many tourists looking for a healthier life find in Bali the place they are looking for. Known for its spirituality, Bali does not lack in structure: it has comfortable hotels, delicious cuisine, award-winning restaurants and offers many different experiences, whether it is a simple afternoon watching the sunset over the sea, a morning practicing yoga or receiving a massage.
Many people think of Bali as an uninhabited beach paradise; and while this thought is true of many, it is not the understanding of all. There are more than 4 million inhabitants on the island, which is much more developed than many people imagine. The island has traffic, it has thousands of motorcycles — sometimes carrying entire families —, it has shopping malls and beaches, which are not always so beautiful.
Don't visit Bali just thinking about enjoying the sea, the neighboring GilI Islands can be more interesting for that, visit it thinking about the wonderful temples you will visit, such as Uluwatu and Tanah Lot, in the late afternoon enjoying a cold drink at a club in in front of the sea, in the rice fields that you will observe and mainly in the cultural teachings that the island will provide.
Bali is a place to explore slowly, to experience small joys, to appreciate nature and be enchanted by what it has to offer!
Bali has many attractions, which are not limited to the beaches. The island has temples, lush landscapes, typical dances and still offers great experiences at an affordable price. And as it is a large island, it is ideal that you organize your schedule according to the location of the attractions you intend to visit. In one day, for example, you can visit the beaches of the south of the island, in another day, explore Ubud and so on...
In the southern part of the island, the highlight is the beaches and the Seminyak area, which is ideal for enjoying a beach club in the late afternoon, such as Ku de Ta or Potato Head. Among the most beautiful beaches that are worth a trip are Padang Padang, Dreamland Beach and the wonderful Uluwatu Beach (Blue Point Beach), which has an incredible view of the sea. You can choose to take a day trip to these beaches and, at dusk, visit the Uluwatu Temple, which is a temple built on the edge of a hill, in front of the sea. At sunset time, Kecak dance performances are made, another traditional and incredible tour option to get to know a little about Balinese culture.
About an hour's drive from Seminyak is Tanah Lot, one of the most amazing temples in Bali, because it was built on a rock in the middle of the sea. When the tide is low, it is possible to walk to the temple. This temple during the sunset is charming… If you are looking for a late afternoon program, this is an excellent option.
There is a lot to see in and around Ubud. In the tourist center, you can visit the Ubud Palace, which has Balinese dances every night, the Ubud Market (great for buying travel souvenirs at a friendly price) and the Monkey Forest, a place with many monkeys, which come close to tourists. . When in Ubud, also take the opportunity to get a massage, as they offer an excellent price on their treatments. If you want to do more extreme programs, you can participate in a rafting trip or take a bike ride.
On the outskirts of Ubud, one of the biggest attractions is the rice fields, especially those in Tegalalang, which are beautiful! In the vicinity of the city, we suggest including a visit to the Elephant Cave (Goa Gajah) and the Tirta Empul temple, where the Balinese use to perform a ritual of purification in water. If you are interested in cooking, a nice program — literally — is to take a cooking class and get to know Balinese cuisine a little better. Another tip is to take Yoga classes, as Bali, being a spiritual place, has several yoga schools and promotes a healthy and more sustainable lifestyle. Climbing Mount Batur, an active volcano, is also a nice program and it can be even more amazing if done early in the morning to see the sunrise from the top of the volcano.
As the island is large, there are still other options for tours, including admiring dolphins at Lovina Beach (go early in the morning), visiting the Ulun Danu Bratan temple and the rice fields of Jatiluwih, a UNESCO heritage site. Bali is a destination that deserves a good amount of time to explore, so try not to make your trip in a hurry and enjoy the tours to the fullest.
Bali, as you may already know, is a big island and therefore offers completely different areas for lodging. Before choosing the hotel where you will stay, first try to understand which region best fits your plans and interests. In addition, it is important to know that it is common for visitors to stay in more than one hotel and in different areas during the trip, because this way they can avoid a long time in displacements and have different experiences on the same trip.
A very positive feature of Bali is that both for those who want to stay in a boutique hotel surrounded by woods and for those who want to stay in a hotel with a pool in front of the sea, the costs are affordable and much lower than other tourist destinations. There are accommodations for all types of travellers, and it is quite likely that you can stay in a better quality hotel in Bali for less than in major tourist cities around the world. Touring in Bali is cheap and doesn't weigh so much on your pocket.
Ubud is the ideal place for those who want to know cultural Bali, the rice fields, contact with nature and have a more authentic experience with regard to the traditions of the Balinese. In Ubud, there are all kinds of resorts, but if you want to be well located and do things on foot, prioritize hotels in the central region and use the Ubud Market or Ubud Palace, both on Raya Ubud Street, as a reference point. Other streets to have as a reference and that have a good location are Monkey Forest and Hanoman.
In Ubud, a good accommodation option is the Anumana, which is well located and has spacious rooms overlooking the pool; Artini 2 Cottage is suitable for those who want to save money, but it is worth mentioning that it does not have such new facilities. To stay in a hotel with a beautiful view, we suggest Pajar House Ubud; and to be well located and have a hotel with good structure, a good tip is the Alaya Resort Ubud.
If you prefer to stay in a busier area, close to the beach and with shopping and dining options, Kuta is a good option and is close to the airport. In Kuta, you will find hotel options such as The Stones Hotel, Alaya Resort, The Pavilion Hotel and the Eden Hotel Kuta.
