Although it has many tourist attractions and several parks that are beautiful in spring, the cherry blossom season, the best thing about Tokyo is being in Tokyo. The simple habit of walking through the streets and living the city is a huge experience, after all, everything is very different. Walking in the streets watching the people, the coming and going at the busy stations, the simple day-to-day kindnesses, the smiles, the respect for others and the countless nods are unique experiences. From the way people treat each other to the products displayed in shop windows, everything is different from Brazil and it is precisely the diversity that enchants.

Tokyo is a big, sprawling city and probably very different from anything you've ever seen in your life. Practically all those clichés in the photos are true: always a lot of people on the streets, people with different clothes, queues, signs flashing everywhere, tall buildings, busy intersections, mega efficient transport and a complicity between the development of the modern city and respect to traditions. There's no shortage of things to do in Tokyo, so spend some time in the city! And if you want to do something different and less “urban”, take a few days to visit Nikko or Hakone.

As there is so much to see in the Japanese capital, you should try to organize your tours according to the time available and your interests. The ideal is always to plan taking into account the geographic organization, visiting the attractions “by region” to save time. The cool thing is that the most interesting thing in the city is free: walking through the streets admiring the shops, passing by a train station watching people come and go, sitting in a park and having a picnic — being in Tokyo and experiencing that madness of the streets is an attraction in itself.

Visiting the main districts of Tokyo is unmissable! Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, Ginza and Asakusa are places to put on the short list. Be sure to cross the Shibuya intersection (the busiest in the world) and visit the Starbucks there to follow the crowd crossing the streets from a panoramic point. Next to the intersection, there is a statue of Hachiko, a dog whose story even won a movie! Walking around Shinjuku Station, which has more than 200 exits, is also a must, as is shopping around the station. Once in the neighborhood, you can go up to the Metropolitan Government Building observatories, which are free and offer a good view.

In Harajuku, visit the Meiji Jingu shrine, which contrasts with the movement of Takeshita Dori, a very busy little street full of young stores, very much like the Japanese, and the refined shops of Omotesando. Visiting Tsukiji Market in the morning is one of the most popular attractions in the city, as it is the largest fish market in the world. There, the tuna auction takes place at around 5 am, but if you don't feel like waking up at dawn to follow it, just arrive early to observe the movement of sales or eat a sashimi for breakfast. After visiting the market, take a walk in the streets of Ginza, where many famous designer stores are located.

Heaven for otakus and nerds alike is Akihabara, a place to snoop around for electronics and gaming stores. The Tokyo Skytree is also worth a visit: it is one of the tallest towers in the world and offers an incredible view of Tokyo, so visit it on clear days. Underneath the tower, there is a mall full of delicious things to eat. If you're traveling in spring, you can't miss visiting Ueno Park, which is beautiful with the cherry blossoms in bloom!

As Tokyo is a very conducive place for shopping, it is always worth keeping an eye on the department stores, which offer a huge variety of products for sale. These stores often have a food court with good restaurants (there is never a shortage of ramen restaurants) and appetizing sweets! For sports fans, a fun way to spend the morning is watching a sumo championship at the Ryogoku Kukugikan, the country's largest sumo stadium.

Walking is common in the city, so be prepared for good walks and wear comfortable shoes! To make the most of your trip, try to wake up early to take the tours that the city offers!

One of the most important parks in Tokyo, Ueno Park was one of the first public parks in Japan, established in 1973. In the area where the park is located, stood the Toeizan Kaneiji temple, which was deconstructed with battles between the Japanese and converted into the beautiful park that it is today.

Regardless of the region you choose to stay in, always try to stay in a hotel that is close to a metro/train station, because that way you can move more easily throughout the capital.

As for location, we suggest staying in Shibuya, Shinjuku or near Tokyo Station. We especially like Shinjuku, because the choice of stores, malls and restaurants is very large and the ease of going to several places on foot is great.

In Shinjuku, which is also a good place to enjoy the nightlife, there are hotels like Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku, which we had the opportunity to visit and we really liked the location, the Hotel Gracery Shinjuku, the Tokyu Stay Shinjuku and the APA Hote Shinjuku-Kabukicho . If you prefer more economical accommodation, the tip is the highly rated Imano Hostel, where we also stayed and enjoyed the service. We chose to stay in Shinjuku and we didn't regret it!

In Shibuya, there are hotels like Shibuya Granbell and Tokyu Stay Shibuya Shin-Minamiguchi. Another area of the capital that has many hotels is the central area of the city, near Tokyu Station and in the vicinity of Ginza. There you can easily get transport throughout the city, including to other cities in the country, since Tokyo Station is one of the largest train stations in the capital — there are large chain hotels, such as the Mercure Hotel Ginza, the Courtyard by Mariott, as well as hotels such as Sunroute Ginza and Hotel Unizo Ginza.
