Upon reaching the top of the Burj Khalifa, one of the tallest buildings in the world, look down and try to imagine how a city could have grown so fast amidst the golden dunes of the desert. Exotic and extravagant, Dubai was just a simple trading post with small buildings on the edge of the Persian Gulf a few decades ago. Today, an integral part of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is one of the most popular and desired destinations in the Middle East, with some of the most incredible attractions in the world. Get ready for a surprising trip, which can include everything from a beautiful parachute jump to a delicious balloon flight at sunrise.

The first impression that visitors have before arriving in Dubai is of a city driven by major works and even a little cold. Do not fool yourself. Extremely cosmopolitan, Dubai has more than 80% of the population made up of foreigners who, together with the locals, welcome tourists from all over the world. The city has excellent attractions that go far beyond the grandiose artificial islands or luxury hotels, such as the Burj Al Arab. And, believe me, several of them have friendly prices or even free access. Rest assured that Dubai fits all pockets and budgets.

If you're there in high season — when the weather is milder — you'll see a vibrant city, with beaches and parks full, open-air concerts and cafes and restaurants tables always lively on the sidewalks. Very different from what we imagined before going. Although air conditioning is attractive and even mandatory during the summer, in winter it is dispensed with by residents and the city takes on new life. It's when you can get to know Dubai at its best and enjoy it to the full. You can go from a swim in the Arabian Gulf to a walk on the desert dunes and then to an indoor ski resort. All in the same day. At night, there's still time to enjoy a Beach Club, a good restaurant and even a nightclub!

Dubai surprises the world for the speed with which it grows and offers new opportunities for travelers. The capacity for renewal is enormous and the desire to attract more and more tourists mobilizes the city. Everything is built to be the best or the biggest in the world. No! We are not kidding. The superlative is constant in Dubai and the plans are always grandiose. The best of all is knowing that plans do, in fact, come true. Therefore, expect the world's largest ferris wheel, the new largest building in the world, an entire island dedicated to night entertainment and some spectacular museums and parks being built in the region in the coming years. Not to mention the new attractions in the neighboring city: Abu Dhabi. Capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi is also enchanting and has been following in the footsteps of Dubai in its quest to attract tourists from all over the world, starting with the Louvre branch, the most important museum in Paris that will take part of its collection to the city.

When traveling to Dubai, you must be aware of the city's high and low season. This will make all the difference in your experience with the place. In high season, when the weather is milder, the city is full of tourists and all attractions are in full swing. The beach becomes very inviting, as do parks and outdoor attractions. The best time to visit Dubai is during the cooler months, especially November to April. The months between June and September mark the hottest period in the city, when walking on the street becomes an ordeal and a walk along the seafront can be even unpleasant. Therefore, be ready for two different experiences depending on the time you choose to travel. We recommend visiting Dubai during the cooler months.

Getting to know the main sights in Dubai won't be difficult. The city even offers some tours that help at this time, such as the hop-on hop-off buses, ideal for those with little time. It's best to go through the main attractions by area, so as not to waste too much time moving around. There are some areas of Dubai that concentrate many attractions, such as Dubai Creek, Downtown Dubai and the edge of Jumeirah Beach and Palm Jumeirah. Among the main sights, some are unmissable. This is the case of the Burj Khalifa observation deck, the beautiful Burj Al Arab building, the Luminous Fountains show at the Dubai Mall, the Palm Jumeirah, the historic district of Al Fahidi and the Gold and Spice Souks. However, these are not the only tourist attractions in Dubai. To help organize your travel itinerary, we have prepared a special post with the main attractions divided by region. See more about Dubai's tourist attractions.

To visit some of the main attractions or to enjoy all that the city has to offer, there is a good offer of tours. One of the most disputed and desired is the Skydive, with a parachute jump over the Palm Jumeirah. To see the artificial island and the city from above, but without so much adrenaline, it's worth trying a helicopter or seaplane overflight. As for exploring the waters that surround the city, both in the canals — such as Dubai Marina and Dubai Creek — and in the Persian Gulf, the ideal is to take one of the cruise tours or fast boats that offer a unique view of the city. Those looking for a slightly more desert climate must try a 4x4 tour in the Dubai Desert. You can even invest in a day at the resorts, a romantic dinner among the dunes or an incredible sunrise balloon ride. Learn more about the main tours offered in Dubai.

Considered one of the most beautiful works in the United Arab Emirates, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Abu Dhabi. The mosque is grandiose and absolutely stunning, in addition to being free to visit and open to foreigners, which is quite rare in Muslim countries. Visits to the mosque can be made on your own or accompanied by a tour guide offered on site. The guide service offers the advantage of accessing places that are not allowed to the public unaccompanied, so if you want to know everything, prefer to take a guided tour. Audio guide devices are also offered at the mosque, which help to understand the history and details of the culture and architecture of the place.

Built at the request of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan and inaugurated in 2007, the mosque is a great work, completely clad in marble and with details in gold, Swarovski crystals and Murano glass. The work is full of beautiful mosaics and even the floor is decorated, not to mention the Persian rug that is considered the largest in the world. The mosque has capacity for more than 40,000 faithful, more than 80 domes and can be seen from various points of the city.

To visit the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, it is necessary to follow some dress code. In general, women should not wear tight or short clothes (long pants and skirts are allowed). Arms and shoulders must be covered, as well as the head. For men, shorts and tank tops are prohibited. If you are not dressed properly, there is nothing to worry about, the mosque has a free clothing loan service for visitors. It will only be necessary to leave an identity document (it cannot be the passport) and pick up the clothes. All tourists go through a clothing “magazine” to be approved or not.

The guided tour of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque lasts 45 minutes and is open to all tourists. Tours take place in English or Arabic and to join a group, just arrive 15 minutes in advance.

Schedule of guided tours: from Sunday to Thursday, at 10 am, 11 am and 5 pm; Fridays at 5 pm and 7 pm; Saturdays at 10 am, 11 am, 2 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm.

Entry to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is free.

The high and low season in Dubai is marked by heat. The city is divided into two seasons: hot and very hot. At the height of summer, especially between the months of June and August, high temperatures scare away tourists and hotel prices drop by half, sometimes down to a third of the high season value. It's the best time of year for those who want to experience a luxury resort on the edge of the Persian Gulf or a renowned hotel without going bankrupt. Price drops are widespread and it won't be difficult to find deals, even in hotels that already tend to have friendlier rates. The average price in low season ranges from USD 40 to USD 1000, and it is possible to find vacancies in large luxury resorts for rates below USD 200.

When the temperature in the city drops, the number of tourists increases. The law of supply and demand gains strength in Dubai, especially between the months of November and February, when the city is teeming with travelers. High season hotel prices rise to the heights of the Burj Khalifa. If your intention is to travel during this period, stay tuned and don't leave to book the hotel at the last minute. To escape exorbitant prices, it is also worth investing in apartment rentals. While in low season an ordinary hotel costs USD 50, in high season it can reach USD 100. Luxury resorts, on the other hand, gain even more strength in prices and will hardly cost less than USD 400. Despite the large increase, it is always possible to find good prices, especially at the beginning of the week. It's important to research a lot so you don't lose money.

Some of the most popular regions among tourists visiting Dubai tend to have higher prices for accommodation. At the same time, they offer several attractions and help the lives of those who prefer to be well located, even if it means paying a little more. Basically, there are four options for areas to stay in Dubai: Coastal region (Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah); Downtown Dubai (Burj Khalifa and Sheyk Zayed Avenue); Dubai Creek (Deira and Bur Dubai); and the Dubai Desert.

In addition to the proximity to the main attractions, it is also important to evaluate the distance to the subway stations. The Dubai metro serves most of the tourist attractions and staying close to one of the stations will certainly help a lot with getting around. The tip is even more important for those who don't intend to rent a car and want to save money with a taxi or Uber.
