What to do in Búzios
Búzios is not a dangerous city, so the main concern about the location should not be safety related. As Búzios has many beaches to explore and you will probably want to vary your daytime schedule, in my opinion the best option is to stay as close as possible to Rua das Pedras and Orla Bardot, so you will not need transport to get around at night.
Here are some inns where I have stayed and I recommend them for their location and comfort:
La Chimère Buzios Essence
Azeda Boutique Hotel
Casas Brancas Boutique Hotel & Spa
Pousada Ao Por do Sol
Pousada Abracadabra
Vila da Santa Hotel Boutique & Spa
Pousada Bahiamarela
Rio Búzios Boutique Hotel
Pousada Corsario
Santorini guest house
Búzios has about 20 beaches and we can say that each one of them has its uniqueness. As it is a peninsula, it is possible to find beaches with waves, with a lot of wind, with clearer waters, with a longer stretch of sand or tiny, hidden beaches. Below I will list some of the main ones:
AZEDA AND AZEDINHA BEACHES
For me, these two beaches are among the best. The place is really a delight and the waters are quite calm. The only problem is that the sand strip is short, so it's good to arrive early to set up camp.
You can get there on foot, passing through the charming Praia dos Ossos, or by water taxi, which costs about R$ 5 per person. I think walking is much more enjoyable, even more so now that the city has installed stairs to facilitate access. Go to the little corner of Praia dos Ossos, go up to the little church (next to it is an old cemetery, hence the name “beach of bones”), go straight ahead and go down the wooden stairs.
In both there are food and drink stalls, but if you want to take your own lunch, don't be shy, a lot of people do that. Just don't forget to take your rubbish with you when you leave.
HORSESHOE BEACH
Praia da Ferradura has calm waters, sellers of corn, pies, açaí and other goodies passing by all the time. If you want to practice water activities there, there is also an option to rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards, banana boats… Anyway, a great option to relax and enjoy a very pleasant afternoon.
BEACH OF GERIBA
For those who enjoy sport, partying and a busier beach, both in the waters and in the number of activities, this is the place. That's where the famous Fishbone is located and where New Year's Eve takes place in Búzios, with fireworks and many parties taking place in different houses, inns and restaurants along the coast.
FERRADURINHA BEACH
Ferradurinha is in the left corner of Geribá, but the climate there is totally different. The beach is smaller and cozy, but no less beautiful, quite the opposite! Surrounded by rocks and bathed by crystalline and calm waters, Ferradurinha is deliciously cozy and one of the most beautiful beaches in Búzios, including my favorite!
Access is via a five-minute walk between the condominiums that surround the beach. The place is perfect for kayaking or practicing stand up paddle.
FOCA BEACH
Praia da Foca is a little more isolated from the other beaches and access is via an easy trail, just 2 minutes. The look is simply amazing! The beach is framed by rocks and has crystal clear waters. Privacy is guaranteed!
To bathe, you have to dive off the rocks or try to take advantage of the small natural pool that usually forms in its left corner. Before, there were frequent reports of car theft at the site, but now security has been reinforced and there is usually a car parked at the entrance to the beach. Anyway, it's good to be aware.
TURTLE BEACH
Tartaruga Beach is right at the beginning of Búzios and is surrounded by cliffs and stone paths. The beach is divided into two sides: for those facing it, the one on the left is the busiest, with kiosks scattered along almost its entire length. The other side is much more peaceful, with small strips of sand almost deserted. This is the part where I always prefer to stay.
Orla Bardot is a delightful walk along the seafront where you can find several restaurants, historic buildings and colonial mansions. Statues that are symbols of Búzios, such as representations of fishermen, the famous Brigitte Bardot and former president Juscelino Kubitschek are attractions. At any time, it's good to wander along the shore, feeling the breeze, admiring the landscape and observing the most varied accents and styles that pass by there.
For starters, no heels, girls! Put on comfortable shoes and enjoy a lot! There is a huge choice of good restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors and mesmerizing shop windows, as well as pubs with music and ballads that happen during the early hours.
