Cabo Frio - Rio de Janeiro

undefined

The Lagos Region, in Rio de Janeiro, surprises with paradisiacal beaches and charming cities. The most famous and known by tourists are Búzios, for all its charm, and Arraial do Cabo, with its crystalline blue sea “a la Caribe”.

However, Cabo Frio, the seventh oldest city in Brazil, should not be left out of your itinerary. And if you're wondering “what to do in Cabo Frio?”, don't worry. There you will find beautiful beaches, great hotels and restaurants, charming and bucolic neighborhoods, breathtaking viewpoints and, of course, lots of fun for the whole family.

Praia do Forte is the main and best known beach in the city of Cabo Frio. On its edge, many buildings, hotels and restaurants, as well as several kiosks on the right side of the beach.

Depending on the season, you will find super crystal clear water, very similar to Arraial. The white sand makes the landscape more beautiful and unique.

However, because it is very central, it gets super crowded on weekends and, especially, holidays. Full of truth!

There are many street vendors selling everything. Special mention should be made of the codfish cake from Portugal and the chicken puff pastry from Trindade. In addition to açaí, pies, peanuts and, of course, coconut water that cannot be missing.

It is in Praia do Forte that Fort São Mateus is located, built in 1616! A true relic, which was formerly used to protect the city against invaders.

Today, it functions as a beautiful viewpoint. From there, we have a beautiful view of Praia do Forte.

If you are interested in getting to know the history of Fort São Mateus in depth, you can talk to some historians who usually stay there.

Praia do Peró is one of the most loved by tourists. White sand and crystalline waters, in addition to several street vendors and kiosks on the shore.

It's a great beach to spend the whole day at. I love walking from one end to the other and catching alligators!

To get to Praia do Peró, leaving the center of Cabo Frio, you can take an uber, taxi, go by car or bus. By bus it is a little more complicated, as you will have to walk for a good distance.

Next to Praia do Peró is Praia das Conchas. On this beach, the sea is even more crystal clear and calm! Be sure to walk to the viewpoint between Praia do Peró and Praia das Conchas. In less than 20 minutes of trail, you reach the top of the hill and have a beautiful view of the two beaches!

In Canal de Itajurú there are several restaurants and shops. The highlight is Restaurante do Zé, one of the most traditional in the city, which serves a very tasty picanha in stone at a good price.

Afterwards, walk along the canal street, stop for an ice cream or a coffee and enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Ilha do Japonês draws attention for its transparent water, with different shades of blue.

It's a small island – the ideal place for those who want to practice SUP or kayak in very calm and shallow waters, and it's also great to take the kids and let them loose.

On the island itself there is nothing but a lot of trees and small stretches of sand to extend the yoke. In the high season or holidays it should be very crowded, it is better to avoid it so as not to compete for space with anyone.

A classic and unmissable tour for those looking for things to do in Cabo Frio is to buy bikinis for great prices!

Shopping Gamboa, better known as Rua dos Bikinis, has more than 150 beachwear, fitness and accessories stores. It's worth taking a walk there and renewing your beachwear at good prices.

Another really cool program to do after the beach is to check out the handicrafts and various products at the Cabo Frio fair. I've been going to the city since I was a little girl, and I've always loved going to the feirinha to buy little bead bracelets and that necklace that comes with a rice grain pendant, with your name written on it! Who ever heard of it?

Obviously, nowadays there is not so much there that attracts me, but it is a super pleasant walk. Tip: try the coconut candies with different fillings that they sell there.
