Rio de Janeiro
The Serrana Region of Rio de Janeiro is very charrming and is a true paradise for those who like to be surrounded by nature, enjoy a chill, dine in good restaurants and take walks in the open air. And if you are planning a trip to this destination, find outt what to do in Itaipava with us!
What to do in Itaipava:
Buy fresh vegetables and flowers at Hortomercado
Hortomercado de Itaipava is the best place to find fresh vegetables, fruits and vegetables from small producers in the region! From Friday to Sunday you can plan to shop for quality products, super fresh!
There are stands with honey, homemade cookies and sweets, cheeses, exotic meats, beautiful flowers and much more.
Take the opportunity to also check out the craft fair that takes place outside. You will probably fall in love with the rugs and paintings that are for sale, as well as other cool objects!
Inside Hortomercado there is a bar called Bar do Horto, super traditional in the region! It is worth planning to arrive in the morning, do your shopping and then try one of the delicious pastries that are fried to order.
The place also has several types of local craft beers. In other words, it is a great choice for your weekend in Itaipava.
The bar is usually full and is also open from Friday to Sunday, from 8 am to 6 pm.
Have a picnic in Itaipava Municipal Park
Itaipava Municipal Park is that breath of nature that we need! There, you will find a good area with grass, lots of trees and shade. It's great for a family picnic, especially for those with small children and pets. That super nice family event to breathe fresh air and eat a delicious snack.
One tip is to bring everything prepared, like mini sandwiches, cut fruit... There isn't much structure for you to prepare things. There's even a canteen, which sells a few things, but if I were you, I'd take everything ready. Then just enjoy!
Ride a bike or go for a walk in the Municipal Park of Itaipava
Still in Itaipava Municipal Park, a good option is to cycle, walk or even run! There's a great bike path over there, quite big, for you to practice exercises.
If you don't have a bike or can't take your own, no problem, you can rent one there.
Shopping at the Feirinha de Itaipava
Impossible to resist stopping by the Feirinha de Itaipava! There are more than 400 stands – many from local producers – selling everything from clothes to decoration items. It has clothes for all tastes and styles, it's worth checking out!
It's also a great place to shop for socks, underwear, workout clothes, and pajamas! Impossible to leave without a bag!
Trek to Pedra de Itaipava
Ever heard of Pedra de Itaipava? It is a beautiful mountain, with wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. A moderate trail, with an approximate duration of 1h30, perfect for those who enjoy contact with nature and are looking for a beautiful view.
The trail, despite being a little tough (there are many climbs!) is easy to do with time. Arriving almost at the top, there is a beautiful ridge, which gives access to the summit. A great outing to do with friends or with your family.
Watch the sunset from the Mirante da Serra de Teresópolis
We recently went to Serra Itaipava – Teresópolis to watch the sunset! We were delighted with the color of the sky, which was changing every moment!
On site, there is a lookout called Mirante da Serra, which is a super open space – there is even a stall selling water and a place to park – which is great for stopping and enjoying the view.
You can combine the trip to Cachoeira do Treze with the Sunnset at Mirante da Serra. Therefore,, if you are looking for what to do in Itaipava in the midst of nature, this could be an excellent option!
How to get around Itaipava
The best way to get around Itaipava is, without a doubt, by car. Public transport is super time consuming and not practical. So, I highly recommend – and highly – that you go by car or rent one to tour the region!
In addition, it is not very common to see people walking through the streets in Itaipava, since the sidewalks are narrow and everything was built around a side road. It is more common to see people riding in cars – which, on the one hand, is bad, since on weekends there is usually traffic at the entrance to the district.
