If you've heard of Sleep Beach, you're definely interested in going there. This place is a true paradise located in the Costa Verde region of Rio de Janeiro. It is close to Paraty, in a region of abundant nature.

Beaches, waterfalls, trails and a super starry sky is just a little of what you can find there. The beach vibe is like no other. There's no way out: those who go, don't want to leave and always find a way to come back!

In this post we separate the best information about Sleep beach. Read how to get there, what camping is like, options for chalets to stay in, where to eat, the best tours and much more. If you haven't heard of it yet, you will also be enchanted by the 1km long beach, with clear and calm waters, located close to Paraty. And the best: you are not restricted to just the beach, there are also trails and waterfalls, in addition to a very busy nightlife!

How to get to Praia do Sono

Praia do Sono is 260km from Rio de Janeiro, near Paraty. To be more precise, the beach is located between Paraty and Ubatuba, close to Trindade, a small town that is better known in the region.

To get there, head towards Paraty and, passing the city, you can start following the signs that indicate Trindade, as it is the same entrance to Praia do Sono. There is also the entrance to Condomínio Laranjeiras, one of the most luxurious in Latin America.

We put the address of Condomínio Laranjeiras on “Waze” and it took us there without any problems. Here's a tip so you don't have any doubts about how to get there.

To get to Praia do Sono you have two alternatives:

trail

This is the cheapest way to get to Praia do Sono. You will need to park your car in one of the parking lots close to the Laranjeiras condominium. Parking costs an average of $7 a day, and don't be alarmed, as sometimes the locals offer their own garage for you to park.

Afterwards, just follow the indications on the signs or ask for a place where the trail begins.

The trail is moderate, lasting approximately one hour. There are some ups and downs to complete the path.

If you're used to hiking and aren't carrying a lot of weight, it might be a good option!

 Van + Boat

Access to Praia do Sono by boat is done inside the Laranjeiras Condominium and, for that, there is a van provided by the condominium, to make this route, free of charge.

After parking the car, you must wait at the van “stop”. There are two or three that operate daily, taking people here and there. On long holidays you may end up facing a long queue to get the van, but it's worth having patience to be rewarded later.

The van ride inside the condominium lasts about 5 minutes, it's pretty quick. The end point is at the condominium pier, where we take the boat to finally reach the beach.

The boat, driven by caiçaras, costs around $8 per person + luggage and has a maximum of 2 passengers per boat.

This stretch lasts about 10 minutes, and there you can already start enjoying beautiful landscapes!

If you already know where you are going to camp or if you have rented a house, just ask the boatman to drop you off near the place. Saves a good walk!

Sleep Beach accommodation options

The experience of sleeping and waking up on the beach is unique: you sleep with millions of stars above you and wake up with a calm, blue sea, which contrasts perfectly with the almond trees on the shore.

Below I will talk about the beach campsites and also the chalets, the two options you will find to sleep there:

 Camping

There are several camping options scattered along Praia do Sono, but I'm going to talk about two specific ones, where I've stayed and I highly recommend them.

The end of the beach is, in my opinion, the best place to camp, as it is much less crowded, there is space to put a tent closer to the sea and you are away from the restaurants and bars that stay until late with loud music.

Night life

Yes, Praia do Sono has a very busy nightlife! The beach has two bars with shows, usually one with reggae and another with samba or forró.

Beaches and waterfalls

Although Praia do Sono is, in itself, quite an attraction, you can visit other beaches and waterfalls in the region through trails!

In one day you can do the following itinerary: Praia de Antigos, Praia de Antiguinhos, Cachoeira das Galhetas and Praia de Ponta Negra.

Just walk to the end of Praia do Sono and follow a trail of approximately 30 minutes, with medium difficulty.

After 30 minutes you will arrive at the beautiful Praia de Antigos, which has much clearer water than Praia do Sono and is completely deserted! It is even forbidden to camp there.
