Espirito Santo
Balneário de Iriri is located in the municipality of Anchieta, on the south coast of Espírito Santo. It is formed by delicious beaches and beautiful landscapes, which form a postcard nicknamed the Capixaba Caribbean!
Among its advantages are the location – as it is close to the capital Vitória, the numerous leisure options for the whole family, in addition to the local cuisine, with good seafood restaurants, traditional capixaba cuisine, national and international.
Iriri is everything you are looking for as a destination for your summer vacation in Espírito Santo. Find out in this post what to do in Iriri, where to stay, the best restaurants, best beaches and much more!
Anchieta and Iriri are very close by, and you'll probably pass through Anchieta on your way – I'm already advancing that it's worth a stop by, to get to know the historic center!
The best way to get to Iriri is by plane, if you live in more distant states, like in the South or North of Brazil. If you live in Espírito Santo or surroundings, a car trip is the best option!
Leaving Vitória, it's only 85km to Anchieta and leaving Rio de Janeiro, it's 445km – much further away, but if you're a fan of road trips, you can take the opportunity to stop in small charming towns along the way!
If you choose to take the bus from Vitória, you can take the Planeta bus stop by purchasing a ticket at the same time. It costs around 20 reais and leaves you inside Iriri, on the main street. The trip lasts about 2 and a half hours and you just need to stay alert so you don't miss the stop because the driver doesn't usually warn you.
Iriri beaches
Did you know that the name IRIRI has indigenous origin and means oyster? In fact, the delicacy is everywhere and is highly respected by the locals.
There are 3 main beaches in Iriri: Praia Costa Azul, Praia da Areia Preta and Praia dos Namorados. None of them usually have a wave, which makes the city's beaches perfect for SUP and kayaking, as well as being perfect to enjoy with children. See below for more information about each beach and be sure to include them in your itinerary!
Blue Coast
Praia da Costa Azul is great for walking or running at the end of the afternoon, as the tide goes down and the sand is very hard. At the end of the beach, on top of the rocks, there is a super traditional restaurant that serves lunch and dinner with live music in a super nice atmosphere.
The specialty is seafood, but it also has pastas, pizzas and traditional dishes. Next to this restaurant, there is a newly opened coffee shop with a handicraft shop. It is worth visiting and enjoying all day there!
Where to stay on Costa Azul Beach, in Iriri
Next to Praia da Costa Azul, there is Pousada Recanto da Pedra – a true paradise, overlooking the sea, which you need to know. The rooms are very charming, well equipped and romantic, with a perfect climate for couples! The inn has its own restaurant, with delicious seafood dishes and even performs weddings!
Areia Preta beach
This is the ideal beach to spend the day sunbathing, eating grilled fish and also to practice SUP, especially during sunset, which is just too beautiful! At the beginning of the beach, you can find the super traditional thick pastries from Quiosque do Português.
To spend the afternoon with friends, I suggest Quiosque Different, which is halfway down the beach and offers free Wi-Fi, sometimes live music and the best fish bait with cassava and red fruit capivodka!
Praia da Areia Preta takes its name due to its formation with darker colored monazite sands in some stretches. In addition to the exotic color, they are therapeutic!
Where to stay on Praia da Areia Preta, in Iriri
To stay close to Praia da Areia Preta, we suggest the Hotel Esparte, highly rated on Booking, with great infrastructure and location! You can choose between suites overlooking the sea or the pool.
Valentine's Beach
This is the least explored beach in terms of kiosks and attractions, as it is further away from the city center. Even so, it is easily accessible, and has the advantage of having a larger green area, with forests and coconut trees contributing to the look.
Tourists usually go to the beginning and end of the beach, as they are the only two points with kiosks. The first, Kanaloa Beach Bar, has just opened with a proposal to attract young people who enjoy listening to different music, such as reggae and surf music (they invite a live band on summer weekends, from 4 pm) and eat something else exquisite.
The second kiosk, called Maré Alta, attracts older people and families looking to eat and drink in larger quantities at a more affordable price. Next to this kiosk, it is possible to find an image of Our Lady inside a small cave where some people stop to pray.
In continuation of Praia dos Namorados, there is Prainha, a small stretch of sand and sea between the stones, which forms a swimming pool. Ideal for children to play while their parents take care of themselves in peace at the only kiosk on this beach, the Quiosque da Prainha, which has existed since 1972.
