One of the steepest skylifts in the world, close to lots of other exciting locations
Loen skylift - Norway
Are you planning a trip to Norway, make sure to put this on your wish list!
Loen skylift is one of the steepest in the world and takes you from 0- to 1011masl in a few minutes, and the view from the top is breathtaking!
This hidden gem is located in Loen, close to Jostedalsbreen National Park. Surrounded by fjords and mountains everywhere you turn, this view is a short skylift ride away, at least if you're not afraid of heights!
Once you reach the top there is a viewing deck, restaurant and souvenir shop - it's also possible to hike further into the mountains from here, if there's enough snow it's also possible to go skiing or sledging.
There is also a ferry service between Loen and Geiranger, making this fantastic view even easier to experience, and you get the added bonus of an fantastic boat ride in the fjords.
By car it's around 2,5 hours from Geiranger to Loen, but there's so much else to see on the way that you might wanna add a night at one of the nearby hotels in Stryn - I enjoyed Hjelle Hotel - opened in 1886 this family run hotel has an amazing history with several royalties visiting back between 1897 and 1955.
If you enjoy airsports, there is designated spots for hangliding, paragliding, base jumpers and wingsuit pilots. Check out the local club Fjordane Luftsportsklubb on Facebook for more information.
