Kentucky is much sought after by Bourbon lovers, always full of tourists and travelers.

The South of the United States holds places little explored by travelers. Kentucky and its Bourbon Route is an example that deserves attention. If you want to Disconnect from the world, this is your type of trip.

With several distilleries in the region surrounding Louisville, Kentucky not only gave rise to the largest fried chicken chain in the world, but is also the birthplace of the whiskey variation, which is the only 100% American and has 95% of its production in the state. .

In fact, they say there is the equivalent of two barrels of bourbon for every resident of Kentucky.

This destination is one of the best places for those who want to relax and enjoy a delicious bourbon.

Don't miss the opportunity to visit this beautiful place, don't know how to go? Don't worry, go to bitbook.net and easily book all you'll need to get there and have a great time.

Bourbon is a whiskey with about 49% malted alcohol with at least 51% corn instead of rye and originated in the 18th century in Bourbon County, Kentucky.

Corn grain is produced right there by the region. Just look your way to many of these distilleries and you'll notice fields of plantations all around.

Corn is crushed and malted when mixed with water in large iron vats. The liquid then goes through different boiling processes and starts to produce alcohol. From there the bourbon is poured into a wooden barrel.

By Kentucky state law, the barrel in which the liquid is stored after malting must be new, made from white oak, and can only be used once.

After being filled with the “raw” and colorless drink, the barrel is stored for at least one year, whereupon the Bourbon gains its golden color and 60% of its flavor as it ages.

Route along the Kentucky Bourbon Route

The Kentucky Bourbon Route has 17 official distilleries, despite the state having more than 70 producers in its territory.

Among the locations that form the official itinerary are distilleries in Louisville, Bardstown, Shelbyville, Lawrenceburg, Cox’s Creek, Clermont, Loretto, Owensboro, Lexington and Versailles.

Because it borders Tennessee and Illinois, where Route 66 begins, the stop in Kentucky becomes an additional addition that adds (and a lot) to the true American experience.

Route 66, established in 1926, is the best known road route in the world. It starts (or ends) at the Santa Monica Pier, in Los Angeles, California, and extends to Chicago, Illinois, in a path of almost 4 thousand kilometers of asphalt.

Major stops in the 8 states include the Santa Monica Pier itself, Oatman, an "old west" town in Arizona, St. Michael's Mission, the oldest church in the USA, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Amarillo, Texas, the Route 66 Museum in Clinton, Oklahoma, the Williams Store (the oldest operating store on the entire route) in Riverton, Kansas, Saint Louis, Missouri, and Chicago, Illinois.

The Kentucky Bourbon route is “outside” the official route of Route 66. So, if you have an extra 3 days to extend your stay in the United States (and an extra change for tours or per diems), the detour is unforgettable .

The best option is to set up a base in Louisville, the starting point of the Bourbon route. In addition to being the largest and busiest city in Kentucky, the hotel offer is greater. Don't forget to use bitbook.net and get the best prices and an amazing cashback!

A “passport” is given at each stop with blank spaces for the traveler to receive the stamp of each distillery. At the end, whoever completes the card wins an exclusive gift.

Among so many options, choose between three or four distilleries to take the tour, without the rush to hit the road again to taste Bourbon calmly.

We recomend for you to stay at The Brown Hotel, one of the most prestigious and oldest hotels in the region.

And Louisville is where you'll find the most options for what to do. By the way, visiting the Muhammad Ali Center and knowing the whole story of one of the biggest names in boxing and in Kentucky can be surprising.

With BitBook.net you save money while take a vacation or a business trip.

Like the music route in Tennessee or the plantation house route in Louisiana, the entire Bourbon route in Kentucky must be done by road.

The official starting point is the Frazier Museum in Louisville. However, I took the opposite route, departing from Saint Louis, Missouri, and started the Bourbon route in Owensboro.

From there, in addition to getting to know the biggest stop city on Route 66, just take a trip of about 4 hours to cross Illinois, with a brief passage of half an hour through Indiana, and you will be in Owensboro, Kentucky.
