Virginia's Capitol
tThe Capitol is open from 8 am to 5 pm and the first guided tour (free!) leaves at 9 am, I suggest you start your day here.
The Virginia Capitol was the first capitol to be built after the War of Independence in 1788 and was designed and idealized by Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States with inspirations from an ancient Roman temple in the city of Nîmes, France.
Although not as large and imposing as the Washington Capitol, it is very beautiful, inside are busts and statues of the 8 US presidents who were born in Virginia, including a life-size statue of George Washington.
Bitbook fun fact: One of the scenes in the movie Lincoln, which takes place in the Washington State Capitol, was actually shot in the Virginia State Capitol.

American Civil War Center At Historic Tredegar
Walk from the Virginia Capitol to the Museum of the American Civil War, very close to the James River that runs through Richmond. It is open from 9 am to 5 pm and tickets cost around 8 USD for adults and 4 USD for children.
The Museum of the American Civil War is located on the banks of the James River (the scene of several parties in the city) in an old weapons factory at the time, called Tredegar, and responsible for the manufacture of more than half of the cannons used in the Civil War.
This is the first American museum to tell the story of the Civil War from all three sides: the North, the Confederate South and the Blacks, and is a great way to better understand how the war unfolded, what each side's strategies were, and who were the main characters. The show is very interactive and features items such as clothing, weapons and flags of the time.

The closest monument to the VMFA is the Stonewall Jackson and, heading to the right on the avenue, is Robert E. Lee, both considered Confederate heroes of the American Civil War.
