Restaurants

Zum Evlenspiegel

This place is a true relic in Salzburg. The building is already an attraction, with more than 680 years of history. The menu puts a lot of emphasis on local cuisine and many of the ingredients are fresh from the farm that the family grows organically. The wine list offers different options, highlighting a lot of Austrian and French wines. Oh! The beers also have a strong presence whether at lunch or dinner!

Gabler brau

The Gabler Brau is housed in a building from 1429 and is proud to preserve the transformations that the place has undergone over all these years. The restaurant is so interesting that it seems that you are inside the story: stained glass windows, a neo-Gothic room with medieval sculptures, a vaulted ceiling in the center, and other details that you only need to be there to understand. The menu is very wide, ranging from fish, soups, pasta to local cuisine with the famous Wiener Schnitzel. The beer menu is well explored, as Salzburg's beer culture dictates.

Monchsberg 32

This glamorous restaurant is located inside the building of the city's Museum of Modern Art, on top of a hill. To get there you need to take an elevator. The decor is spectacular and the view of the city makes this place special. The menu ranges from traditional Austrian to Mediterranean cuisine, and the wine selection is lean and refined. I suggest making reservations for dinner.

Cafes:

Tomaselli

Considered the oldest café in all of Austria according to Salzburg locals, this charming and historic place is right in the heart of the city. It is said that it was here, in these chairs, that the idea of producing the famous music festival in the city was created in 1920.

The most traditional way to discover Tomaselli is enjoying its famous breakfast, there are endless options. Another way is, during the day, to stop here to rest and try a tasty coffee along with one of their pastries.

Sacher

The very traditional Sacher chocolate pie fills this place all day long. Located inside a rich and incredible hotel, Café Sacher has a very important Austrian tradition, which has expanded its horizons through gastronomy. The recipe for this pie for you to have an idea is kept under lock and key until today.

Augustiner Brau

The beer culture in Austria is something very present in the daily lives of the residents. The Salzburg region, in particular, has this side well outlined. Around the city, there are several breweries and pubs to discover and try the much-loved drink.

The Augustiner Brau and its famous gardens are part of an old Benedictine monastery founded in 1605. In 1621, the monks started producing beers with a very special recipe that is still used today. Currently, the monastery no longer works and the Augustiner Brau has become the largest pub in Austria with more than 1400 seats, spread over five thousand square meters.

The place is huge and very traditional. Imagine a bunch of large, collective tables distributed in a dark wood hall, with countless people toasting and celebrating! That's Augustiner. And when the weather is more pleasant, during spring and summer, the movement migrates to the extensive and flowery garden. Austrians point out that these are the best times to taste and enjoy beers.

In keeping with tradition, the beer is poured into wooden barrels in stone jars and served in clay porcelain mugs. They say that the temperature and flavor of the drink are maintained longer under these conditions. The house features several types of beers, and some of them are served by seasons. The most popular are: Märzen enjoyed all year round, Fastenbier, served from Ash Wednesday until Easter, and Bockbier, tasted in November and December.

Being considered the biggest pub in Austria, imagine the number of people who don't pass by. There are locals and tourists from all over the world wanting to know and celebrate in this brewery center. Some locals even have a captive table in the pub.

The consumption process here is very dynamic. There are no waiters taking orders at the tables and orders are placed directly at the register. As soon as you pay for the drink, which by the way is cheap, you get a mug, hand it to the brewmaster and pick up your order. An interesting point at the Augustiner Brau is that you can bring your own food, or if you prefer to enjoy something in the pub, there are several places to buy snacks.

Ah, an important detail, is that the Pub is located very close to the center of Salzburg, with easy access. Therefore, on the day of your visit, combine business with pleasure and walk. There will be many beers appreciated, believe me.
