One of the oldest cities in the Americas, Salvador is home to most of the elements that make up our Brazilian cultural identity. The city is home to several cultural spaces, varied cuisine, architectural complexes from the colonial era and breathtaking landscapes.

To escape the rains, avoid the months between April and June. The high season in the city is during the vacation months, especially the summer ones and, of course, Carnival. Spring (between September and November) is a great choice for those who like to enjoy the heat instead of the heat and a calmer beach without a lot of people. Even so, choosing the best time to visit a destination depends on what you want to find there.

For the revelers, Carnival is, without a doubt, the best season to go out in Salvador. But watch out for high temperatures and overcrowding in the city. Book everything well in advance and be prepared to face the heat and crowds.

Model market

Going to Salvador and not visiting Mercado Modelo is practically impossible. The market is not only a historical and architectural landmark, but an experience of immersion in the culture of Bahia. In it you will find stores selling traditional products, restaurants with typical Bahian food, incredible views of Baía de Todos os Santos and the best souvenirs in town.

Lacerda's elevator

Right in front of the Mercado Modelo is the imposing Elevador Lacerda. Used since 1873 as public transport in the city, it is a great way to continue your tour of Salvador.

Two curiosities about Elevador Lacerda: it was the first urban elevator in the world and when it was built, it was considered the highest in the world, at 63 meters. Today, the complete structure is 72m.

The Elevador Lacerda is a postcard of the city of Salvador and connects Praça Cairu, in Cidade Baixa to Praça Tomé de Sousa in Cidade Alta. From up there the view is privileged. Not to mention it's a great spot for photos. Of course don't forget to use BITBOOK.NET and get the best prices and also a great cashback!

Pillory

One of the most classic walks in Salvador, Pelourinho is the scene of many of Bahia's icons: the colorful houses, the colonial churches, the house where Michael Jackson recorded scenes from the clip They Don't Care About Us, where Olodum rehearsals take place and Sons of Gandhi, the House of Jorge Amado and much more! Don't miss the opportunity to visit this beautiful place, don't know how to go? Don't worry, go to bitbook.net and easily book all you'll need to get there and have a great time.

Carnival House

Casa do Carnaval is the first museum entirely dedicated to the most important popular festival in Brazil. Inaugurated in 2018, the museum has 4 floors and has the technology and interactivity to tell the story of Carnival in a multisensory experience.

In the museum, videos, models, photos, instruments and historical documents that record and materialize the history of Carnival in Salvador can be seen.

Museum of Bahian Gastronomy

Who doesn't like the seasoning of Bahia? Palm oil, abará, acarajé, tapioca, Bahian moqueca, that little red pepper… the list goes on and on!

For those in love with gastronomy and Bahian flavor, nothing better than to include in the tour of the Historic Center of Salvador the Museum of Bahian Gastronomy, which is located in Largo do Pelourinho. The museum is an initiative of Senac da Bahia, it is located in the heart of Pelourinho and has exhibitions, a bar and a restaurant-school. Unmissable!

Museum of Modern Art of Bahia Forte

Solar do Unhão is a mansion built in the 16th century and is located by the sea. It has an incredible view of Baía de Todos os Santos and is well known for being a great place to watch the sunset.

Since 1963, it houses the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia and the space has 5 exhibition rooms, an outdoor gallery called Parque das Esculturas and a cinema room.

One of the highlights of the cultural program at Solar do Unhão is the Jam at MAM, jam sessions that take place every late afternoon on Saturdays. Sounds like the perfect show to end the afternoon, doesn't it?
