From P3 it is a 20 km return hike, which is estimated to be 7-10 hours. P3 is also the most expensive parking lot. There is a NOK 600 parking fee per day and you have to pay a NOK 200 toll to get to P3. Note that P3 only has 30 parking places, so be sure to pre-book you parking spot!</p><p class="md-block-unstyled">If you don’t mind the extra hike, you can start at the P2 parking lot to save some money. From P2 it is a 27 km return hike which will take about 8-12 hours. The 7 km extra compared to P3 is a steep climb (and descent on the way back) of 3,5 km with an ascent of close to 500 meters. Parking at P2 will set you back NOK 500 for the first day. If you wish to stay overnight, P2 has cheaper rates for two (NOK 700) and three (NOK 900) days. Optional transportation to P3 is available from P2 if you would like to skip the zig zag road.</p><p class="md-block-unstyled">There is also parking lot P1. This parking is a 38 km return hike away from Trolltunga, which will take around 15 hours. Parking in P1 costs NOK 300 for the first day, NOK 500 for two days and NOK 700 for three days. The rooftop is free to access and provides a beautiful view of the Groningen skyline. The Martinitoren is the flagship of the city and is part of the Martinikerk located on the Grote Markt. With 96,8 meters high it is the highest tower in Groningen. Locals have given the tower the nickname <em class="md-inline-italic">d&#x27; Olle Grieze</em>, which means Old Gray in the local dialect.</p><figure class="md-block-image md-block-image-has-caption"><img src="https://cdn.bitbook.net/images/13741648809733.jpg" alt="Martinitoren" /><figcaption class="md-block-image-caption">Martinitoren</figcaption></figure><p class="md-block-unstyled">The current tower has two predecessors that do not exist anymore today. The first tower was built in the 13th century, located on the west side of the Martinikerk and was around 30 meters high. Due to a lightning strike in 1408 the tower got destroyed. The construction of the second tower was started in 1452 and was around 45 meters high. This tower did not survive long as a fire destroyed the tower in 1465. In 1469 the construction of the current tower started, but how long the construction took is still unknown today.</p><p class="md-block-unstyled"><strong class="md-inline-bold">4. Grote Markt</strong></p><p class="md-block-unstyled">De Grote Markt (the big market) is the most important square of Groningen and marks the middle of the city. Cathedral de Dom</strong></p><p class="md-block-unstyled">The Cathedral of Utrecht (in Dutch: Domkerk) is a Gothic church in the city center of Utrecht. The Roman Catholic Cathedral was built in the 13th century for the bishop of Utrecht and was dedicated to Sint-Maarten. In 1580 the church was consecrated to Protestantism and still is to this day. With 112,32 meters, the church tower is the tallest in the Netherlands and the highest building in Utrecht.</p><figure class="md-block-image md-block-image-has-caption"><img src="https://cdn.bitbook.net/images/31701648725096.jpg" alt="Cathedral de Dom" /><figcaption class="md-block-image-caption">Cathedral de Dom</figcaption></figure><p class="md-block-unstyled">Originally, the Cathedral of Utrecht was bigger than it is today. During a storm in 1674 part of the church collapsed, separating the tower from the church in the process. Brewery de Boog</strong></p><p class="md-block-unstyled">Brewery de Boog was founded in 1584 and was run by the Van Wyckerslooth until the late 17th century. The brewery used the water from the canal as ingredient for its brews. The primary location of the brewery was on De Oudegracht. In 1897 the brewery closed its doors due to heavy competition from the big industrial breweries. After that the premise on De Oudegracht was used as sigar store, liquor store and as a storage facility. In the 1980’s the premise got damaged by a fire after which it was restored in 1989.
